Abstract: The present investigation deals with the phase equilibria of the U-Nb-C and U-Ce-C systems. Different preparation methods of U-Nb-C sampler have been studied form the viewpoints of the homogeneity and adjustment of equilibrium in the products. The validity of the Vegard's law was confirmed for the (U,Nb)C solid solutions. The stabilities of the (U,Nb)C solid solutions in contact with carbon were measured as a function of temperature at 16OO-2OOO°C. The results agree with the values which were calculated from the thermodynamical data using an interaction parameter of 28,5 KJoule/mol. For the U-Ce-C system a phase diagram was drawn for 1600°C. Cerium dissolved up to 10 mol-% as a hypothetical "CeC" in UC. There was no solubility between CeC$_{2}$ and UC$_{2}$.
